Softest Sighs

September 2021 Newsletter

--

I got jinxed so hard when I mentioned in the beginning of my previous newsletter that I am enjoying working from home, because from yesterday, my illogical company decided to let me physically report back to work again. Ugh, whatever. It’s only a matter of time until I leave this hell-hole behind, anyway!

I didn’t mean to start my newsletter with such a cranky mood, so allow me to start again. 😮‍💨

Before I share about my newest publications for the past month, I would like to express how ecstatic I am that we are finally moving to a new home. It’s still in the same sluggish city of South Tokyo, but I can strongly feel how our lives are changing as we move to the next step. Moving is stressful, but it’s a happy kind of stress.

It’s quite early to already summate how crazy-good 2021 has been to me, in spite of all the crazy-bad challenges, so I would keep myself mum and refrain from getting jinxed again. 😬

Just keep on publishin’

Even though house hunting and moving houses has been driving us insane, I still somehow managed to keep my creative rhythm steady in the past month. Here are the newest photobook titles, produced by yours truly:

  • Monomania Love 3, featuring Women in Street Japan
  • Can of Worms, in collaboration with Thai photozine maker, Wuthipol Ujathammarat (Teaser and details soon!)

Coming soon:

  • Monomania Love 4, featuring 5 photographers who submitted in the Open Call
  • Half Moons, edited by Trey in collaboration with Tour Dogs
  • Tokyo Girls, a special series featuring Tokyo portrait photographer, Richard Lee (also my first time to co-publish a thing!)
  • and something which I fondly entitled ANATOMIES, a new personal series that I’m very, very excited about!

I have been waiting for this moment to finally share with you that all of the titles above, plus my previously published ones, will be included in my first ever participation at the Tokyo Art Book Fair. 🥺

It’s a dream come true! I’m so eager to be part of it as a participant and I promise to share the experience with you.

Online shop revamp

When I published Monomania Love in Double Exposures, I received messages from buyers who couldn’t use their credit cards with my Japan-based online shop. I immediately reported this concern to the app’s customer support. It turns out that credit cards that were created in countries outside Japan cannot be used with their system. Because what was the point of having international options on one’s shop when customers eventually won’t be able to purchase anything at all? This frustrated me a lot.

But instead arguing for a lost cause, I immediately resurrected my online shop at Big Cartel, which you can now access at shop.erincrxss.com 🤗

I’m really happy with the way how my current shop neatly looks, though I’m still feeling a bit stingy with upgrading my account for $10/month, just so I’m able to post more than 5 products with 5 photos each. Haha!

Latest photobook/zine acquisitions
